About

Jacob Clausen

Artist | Graphic Designer | Editor

From a young age, digital mediums have fascinated Clausen. His first altercation with a crash occurred while fully immersed in a video game. The illusion of a world within the TV was brought to an end by nothing more simple and devastating than a cut. When his father mended the scratch with toothpaste, he was perplexed how minor conditional changes of the CD could drastically change the images it held. The cut revealed that the media was material and that there was a craft behind it.

In 2019 Clausen began specializing in glitch art during his study at Holbæk Art School. Through research into Rosa Menkman’s A Vernacular of File Formats he experimented with databending and developed methods for resampling large quantities of media. Clausen’s notion of image erosion was especially informed by Bill Morison’s Decasia which drew him to research the digital equivalent. Digital decay. A major theme in his bachelor thesis BITROT, being the notion that all digital information suffer entropy.

Clausen recontextualize images from social media and film through editing, databending and compositing. His work is a critique on modern day accelerationism and employ problem solving methodology of hacker culture and collage.
